    MCQUAID JESUIT PRESENTS IGNIS AWARD
    TO FACULTY MEMBER AND SPOUSE

Rochester, New York, June 14, 2005….. Robert J. Bradley, McQuaid Jesuit English faculty member and multiple championship-winning cross country and track coach, and his wife, Ann Marie, recently were presented with McQuaid Jesuit’s Ignis Award.  The award, derived from the school’s motto, “Cast Fire on the Earth,” is presented to those individuals whose commitment and dedication have left a great impact upon McQuaid.

Robert Bradley, a graduate of Fordham University, joined McQuaid Jesuit in 1960 as a teacher of English and Latin.  He will begin his 46th year this fall teaching one class of 11th grade advanced placement English and coaching his 44th cross-country team.  Bradley was spring track and field coach from 1963-1999, excluding the 1986-1987, and 1993-1997 seasons; and indoor track and field coach from 1965-1976, and 1988-1993.  His accomplishments include: two New York State NYPHSAA cross-country championships; ten Section V cross-country championships; six Section V spring track championships; three Section V winter track championships; and several Diocesan cross-country championships prior to McQuaid’s admission to Section V competition in the early 1970s.  In 2003, Bradley was inducted into the Hall of Fame, Niagara Section, U.S.A. Track and Field Association and is included in the Section V Hall of Fame in all three sports that he coached.

This past fall, Bradley was inducted as one of the first members of the McQuaid Jesuit Round Table.     The purpose of the Round Table is to recognize individuals, living or deceased, who have distinguished themselves in their personal lives and careers, thereby reflecting McQuaid Jesuit’s educational efforts.

Ann Marie Bradley graduated from D’Youville College with a bachelor’s degree in nursing and earned her master’s degree in nursing education from Catholic University.  She taught maternal and child health nursing at the University of Buffalo, and later worked at an outpatient-counseling program at the Long Island Jewish Hospital, in New Hyde, New York.  She eventually joined the staff at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Strong Memorial Hospital and worked in adolescent outpatient care.

Bradley serves as a Eucharistic minister for the Rochester Friendly Home and St. Thomas More Church.  She also served as a volunteer for various McQuaid functions, One World Goods, a store that sells and distributes goods made by Third World Countries, and as a volunteer counselor for Birthright.

“Bob and Ann Marie exemplify the ideals of Ignatian spirituality.  Their concern for the well being of others, their generosity of time and treasure, and their dedication to McQuaid Jesuit, and their humility is inspiring.  We are honored to bestow upon them this award,” said James E. Whelehan, McQuaid’s president.

The Bradleys reside in Brighton and have three children, Audrey, Amy, and H. Robert, McQuaid Class of 1993, and three grandchildren, one of whom is a member of the McQuaid Class of 2009.
