TWO RENOWNED SPEAKERS VISIT MCQUAID WEDNESDAY
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Dr. Kevin Trenberth, a senior scientist and head of the Climate Analysis Section at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colo., will speak about the potential impact of global warming during a 1:15 p.m. presentation before McQuaid Jesuit students in the Hogenkamp Auditorium on Wednesday April 25. Trenberth is a major contributor to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the international organization of scientists that has studied and reported findings on the global climate since 1988.
Trenberth recently stated in testimony in front of the U.S. House of Representatives’ Science and Technology committee that there will be climate changes, and humans must, “ plan to cope with the changes, such as enhanced droughts, heat waves and wild fires, and stronger downpours and risk of flooding. Managing water resources will be a major challenge in the future.”
Ron Ferreri, director of development for Jesuit Refugee Services, will be speaking on the vital work of JRS in the McQuaid Student Chapel at 11:20 a.m. on Wednesday, April 25. JRS is a ministry of the Society of Jesus and was founded by former Father General, Pedro Arrupe, SJ, in 1980. Today, the JRS works in more than 50 countries and has assisted more than 450,000 people in its 27-year history.
