Academic Acceleration Courses

All of the following courses are for school credit.  For 2020, these courses will be taught online. Instructors will reach out with additional information for each course, prior to the start date.

Students must have an 85% or higher average in pre-algebra, and a signed teacher invitation letter, as well as an approval letter signed by his or her current teacher as well as the summer algebra teacher, in order to qualify for the class. By completing this course, a student will accelerate one year in his or her mathematics sequence. While preference is given to students of McQuaid Jesuit and Our Lady of Mercy, all students are welcome to apply. Students must have a 90% or higher average in algebra, the permission of their algebra teacher and the summer geometry teacher in order to take this class. By completing a summer mathematics class, a student will accelerate one year in his or her mathematics sequence. An eighth grader will then take Algebra II/Trigonometry Advanced as a freshman and could complete two AP Calculus courses by the end of senior year. A freshman will then take Algebra II/Trigonometry or Algebra II/Trigonometry as a sophomore and could complete AP Calculus AB by the end of senior year. While preference is given to students of McQuaid Jesuit and Our Lady of Mercy, all students are welcome to register. A maximum of 12 students will be accepted. Students must have a 90% or higher average in geometry (85% or higher in advanced geometry), the permission of their geometry teacher and the approval of the summer trigonometry teacher in order to qualify for the class. By completing this course, a sophomore will then take Precalculus or Precalculus Advanced as a junior and could complete AP Calculus AB by the end of senior year. A freshman will then take Precalculus or Precalculus Advanced as a sophomore and could complete two AP Calculus courses by the end of senior year. While preference is given to students of McQuaid Jesuit and Our Lady of Mercy, all students are welcome to register. *Offered in partnership with Canisius High School

*NEW* This summer, Canisius High School and McQuaid Jesuit will share access to each other’s online summer courses. Canisius will make their online physics class available to McQuaid Jesuit students who have successfully completed Biology, Chemistry, Geometry and Algebra 2 II/Trigonometry with an average of 85% or higher and have received departmental approval. Students who successfully complete summer physics will be eligible for enrollment in Advanced Placement Science for the 2020-2021 academic year which is based on space availability and department recommendation.
