COVID-19 Athletics Protocol

FALL 2020 ATHLETICS COVID-19 PROTOCOL AND GUIDELINES:

Members of the McQuaid Jesuit Community,

We are excited to be able to welcome students, coaches, and staff back to 1800 S. Clinton Ave as we return for a shortened Fall athletics season. We will be following the mandates from the New York Governor’s Office, the New York State Department of Health, Monroe County Department of Health as well as the recommendations of the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) and the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA). Please note that all athletic facilities will be off limits except for planned activities by McQuaid Jesuit Staff for McQuaid Jesuit students.

In order to keep everyone safe and for all to feel comfortable attending an athletic session at McQuaid Jesuit, we are implementing the following:

Student-Athlete Responsibilities:

  • Distance of at least 6 feet must always be maintained among individuals, whether indoors or outdoors
  • Must wear a mask or other appropriate face covering, unless the student-athlete is unable to tolerate a face covering for the physical activity (i.e. practice or playing a game); provided, however, that a mask shall be worn at all time when not directly engaged in physical activity
  • Student-athletes must communicate directly to a coach that they cannot tolerate the face covering
  • No hugging, high fives, shaking hands, fist bumps, or other intentional physical contact of any kind with another person
  • Wash or sanitize hands regularly before, during, and after a practice or game
  • Make sure you have submitted a DailyPass screening prior to attending school that day. If you are a remote learner, you will need to complete the DailyPass for that day or complete a written questionnaire and temperature check once on campus
  • If you are feeling unwell or do not satisfy the requirements of the DailyPass screening, you should stay at home, not attend any school events or activities, and contact your primary care provider or other appropriate health-care professional
  • Student-athletes should tell a coach immediately if they are not feeling well
  • Arrive 10-15 minutes before a scheduled activity and do not congregate with other students
  • Students are encouraged not to carpool, if possible. If carpooling cannot be avoided, all passengers should wear masks
  • Bring your own personal equipment, which should include the following:
    • Mask or an appropriate face covering
    • Appropriate shirt and shorts (no cut-offs, pinnies or basketball-style jerseys), and shirts must be worn at all times
    • Filled water bottle with name
    • Personal bottle of hand sanitizer
    • Clean towel
    • Appropriate sneakers/cleats
    • Draw string bag (no large backpacks please)
  • Access to indoor locker rooms will be prohibited so please arrive in appropriate attire and ready for your practice or game

Parent Responsibilities:

  • Parents and guardians must maintain a physical distance of 6 feet between other individuals or household units
  • When dropping off or picking up your son, we ask that you either stay in your car or maintain 6 feet of distance from other individuals. Please avoid congregating in groups whenever possible
  • Only essential personnel (coaches, players, medical staff, school administrators, and officials/referees) are permitted at practice
  • Make sure your son has the necessary personal equipment listed above
  • Make sure your athlete’s personal items are clearly labeled to avoid any inadvertent sharing
  • Disinfect your athlete’s personal equipment after each game or practice
  • Spectators are limited to no more than 2 per student-athlete

Coach Responsibilities:

  • Communicate protocol and guidelines in a clear and consistent manner to students and parents
  • All coaches must always wear an appropriate face covering during practice or games, even when an appropriate distance of 6 feet can be maintained between individuals
  • Coaches will utilize cohorts for daily practices as well as taking daily attendance
  • No hugging, high fives, shaking hands, fist bumps, or other intentional physical contact of any kind with another person
  • Wash or sanitize hands regularly before, during, and after a practice or game
  • Make sure you have submitted a DailyPass screening prior to attending school that day. If you work off-campus, you will still need to complete the DailyPass for that day or complete a written questionnaire and temperature check once on campus
  • If you are feeling unwell or do not satisfy the requirements of the DailyPass screening, you should stay at home, not attend any school events or activities, and contact your primary care provider or other appropriate health-care professional

Facilities:

  • Capacity is limited to no more than 50% of the maximum occupancy and will be limited to the number we can safely have in attendance while maintaining an appropriate social distance amongst spectators
  • Whenever possible, appropriate seating and distance requirements will be visibly noted in both seating and high-traffic areas
  • There will be separate entrances and exits to reduce bi-directional foot traffic and congestion
  • Individuals in attendance will be required to wear an appropriate face mask, will be required to complete a screening protocol, and will be required to maintain appropriate social distancing
  • Handwashing and sanitation stations will be strategically placed to encourage frequent use
  • Appropriate cleaning and disinfection supplies will be available to cleanse shared and frequently touched surfaces and equipment, before, during and after games or practices
  • Concessions will not be offered at games to reduce congestion and to maintain the required social distancing
  • Community water will not be offered at games or practices to reduce congestion and to maintain the required social distancing
  • Restrooms will be regularly cleaned and disinfected for games or practices
