It is both our honor and duty to pay tribute to McQuaid Jesuit alumni who have served in the armed forces. Whether they are currently serving, retired, or fallen alumni, McQuaid recognizes the courage and sacrifices of these extraordinary men and their families.

This September 16, 2026, we will formally dedicate a memorial on campus to permanently recognize our alumni lost while serving in foreign wars. This memorial will stand in solemn tribute to our brave McQuaid brothers who gave their lives in service to our country.

These young men once walked the halls of this school – sons, classmates, teammates, and friends. They answered the call of duty with courage, honor, and selflessness, laying down their lives in defense of freedom.

May their sacrifice never be forgotten, and may their legacy inspire future generations to live with purpose, integrity, and valor.

In memory of all of our fallen Knights, Sentinels will be created to stand guard on the McQuaid campus. Each Sentinel in this memorial is designed in the shape of the Jerusalem Cross, symbolizing the call to spread faith to the four corners of the world. The veterans memorial will be located on the back loop of the school, outside Keenan Hall.

Rendering of Future “Sentinels”

This powerful symbol also honors the legacy of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, reminding us of the Ignatian call to service, sacrifice, and spiritual depth. The Sentinels will stand not only as tributes to each fallen alumnus, but also as an enduring reminder for us all to “Live the Fourth” – to carry the values of faith, courage, and brotherhood into our daily lives.

McQuaid Jesuit is grateful to those in our community who are stepping up to support our fundraising efforts to ensure our fallen alumni are recognized in perpetuity. A special heartfelt thanks goes out to the Class of 1967, who have inspired this veterans memorial project, and committed a generous lead gift of $75,000. The total cost for this project is $500,000.

Through this project, the Class of 1967, is also establishing the Sons of Veterans Scholarship Fund. This fund will provide financial aid to qualifying young men enrolled at McQuaid Jesuit in grades 6-12 whose parents are members of the armed forces (active duty or veterans.)
