Three Seniors Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

Congratulations to seniors Benjamin Buyer, Adam Daughton and Peter Zappia who have been named semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship competition. This designation is based on the results of the October 2017 PSAT qualifying test taken by more than 1.6 million students at 22,000 schools nationwide. Less than one percent of these students receive the semifinalist distinction, which places them in the top one-half percent of students in New York State as measured by the PSAT qualifier. While there are many ways to measure and recognize academic achievement, being named a National Merit semifinalist is a high honor, and we are happy to celebrate their good work.

The three semifinalists will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered next spring.
