Community Celebrates Mass of the Holy Spirit

McQuaid celebrated its annual Mass of the Holy Spirit this morning in the John H. Ryan Jr. Memorial Gymnasium. The tradition of the Mass of the Holy Spirit dates back to 1548 in Messina, Sicily when the first Jesuit school was opened. During the opening of their academic year, the school community celebrated the Eucharist and asked for the blessings of the Holy Spirit on their new endeavor. Ever since, those involved in Jesuit education at both the secondary and university levels have followed this tradition.
