Community Celebrates Xavier Day

The theme for Xavier Day 2018 was: Love Your Neighbor: Answering the Gospel Call to Welcome the Stranger with a focus on identifying what makes someone a refugee or an immigrant. Students started the day with a TED talk by Pope Francis and then gathered as a community in the gym where they heard from student speakers prior to the day’s keynote speaker, Dr. Marvin McMickle.

Dr. McMickle is from Rochester’s Colgate School of Divinity. He is an accomplished theologian, previously the pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio, the author of 15 books, and a regular contributor to various magazines and publications. He will spoke about the Gospel call to welcome the stranger and how it applies to welcoming refugees and immigrants into our communities.

Following the keynote, students gathered as classes around the school where they participated in breakout sessions.
