The newly renamed “Pamela Stoffel Speech Competition of McQuaid Jesuit” was held Friday, April 26 in Hogenkamp Auditorium. Mrs. Stoffel founded the speech competition in 2000 and served as its “Master of Ceremonies” until her retirement from McQuaid’s English department following the 2017-18 academic year.
Every senior is required to write a persuasive speech on the topic of his choosing in English class. After performing their speeches in class, one senior from each of the six sections was selected to compete in front of the entire class and a panel of judges. This year’s finalists were: Jonathan Abbott, Noah Campanelli, David Eichas, Jacob Hochadel, Sam Nix, and Kevin Reed. Following their speeches, the judges named David Eichas year’s winner. David received a $1,000 college scholarship. Noah placed second and received a $500 college scholarship. You may view each speech below.
