Football Advances to Title Game; Cross-Country Finishes Fourth in Sectionals

For the second straight year, the football Knights will compete for the Class AA title. And for the second straight year, it’s rival Aquinas who stands in their way. McQuaid knocked off Pittsford 20-7 Friday night in the Class AA semifinals to improve to 9-0 on the year and earn a spot in the championship game. McQuaid defeated Aquinas 27-21 earlier this year in a game played at Frontier Field. It was the first time the Knights had beaten the ‘lil Irish since 2006. Should they do it again, it would be the first time a McQuaid football team has won Sectionals since 1978.

McQuaid’s cross-country team finished fourth at Saturday’s Section V Championships held at Midlakes High School. Leading the way for the Knights were seniors Max Chew (17:05.4) and Ryan Martin (17:06.7) who finished 12th and 13th respectively. Junior Connor Kerr (17:19.4) finished 20th. Freshman Colin Brown (17:21.9) finished 22nd and senior JR Klee (17:50.1) finished 46th to round out the scoring for the Knights.
