The McQuaid Jesuit Knights took down Massena and Bishop Timon over the weekend to improve to 6-1 on the season and emerge as victors of the annual Bob Schwartz Memorial Tournament. The team was carried offensively by stellar performances from Charlie Merkley, Tim Brown and Jeevan Deol, while netminder Dave Battisti put up the brick wall between the pipes. Merkley carried the Knights on Friday in the 7-1 rout of Massena scoring a natural hat-trick. Deol, Zach Lee, and Brown posted 1G and 1A each and Battisti stopped 26/27. Deol took his game to an even higher level on Saturday en route to a 6-2 victory over Bishop Timon posting 2G and 2A. Brown dished all night long and earned a playmaker with 3A. Battisti stoned Timon’s shooters repeatedly, ultimately stopping 19/21 finishing the weekend with a .923 save percentage. Deol’s workhorse weekend earned him the MVP of the tournament. The McQuaid Jesuit Knights will look to continue their high-end play as they face Syracuse City and Victor over the upcoming holiday weekend.
