McQuaid basketball stops UPrep for repeat Class AA Sectional Title

Congratulations to the McQuaid Jesuit varsity boys basketball team, who defeated UPrep 81-75 on Saturday night at the Blue Cross Arena, to bring home the Section V Class AA Section V Championship for the second year in a row.  Jermaine Taggart had 27 points and perhaps one of the best games of his life, his scoring peppered with layups, dunks, free throws, and 3-pointers.  Taggart also had 9 rebounds, 2 blocks, and a steal.  Kobe Long added 24 points towards the win, with a big 3 point play with 1:13 left on the clock.  Taggart was named MVP of the tournament, while Long and Harry Bruu were named to the All-tournament team.  You can read the article on the Democrat and Chronicle here, or visit Pickin’ Splinters here, for their account of the game.

The Knights will face the Section VI-champion, Niagara Falls, Saturday during the regional round of the state tournament at Greece Athena.  McQuaid defeated Niagara Falls, 76-69, at home on December 15.
