On March 30, 2019, the Rochester Yacht Club will host the NYISA-NW league qualifier for high school sailing. There will be high school teams from Jamestown, Buffalo, and Rochester competing for the right to move on to the MASSA District Championships in Virginia.
That’s right – the high school sailing season is starting out with a regatta during this cold and snowy weather we have been having. This season, we have local teams from Mercy, McQuaid, Fairport, Pittsford, Rochester City Schools, West Irondequoit, Brighton, and Webster. They will be competing against Southwestern HS, St. Joseph’s, Nichols, Canisius, Williamsville North and Buffalo Seminary.
It’s going to be a great day of sailing on the Genesee River. We are hoping for some nice wind, a little sun, and maybe a few degrees warmer.
Sailors will be arriving around 9:00 a.m. Racing begins around 10:00 a.m., and runs until 2:00 p.m. It should be great to see so many local teams competing for the right to represent western NY in the Mid-Atlantic Championships, which will be held in Annapolis, Maryland in two weeks. The top four teams will then get the opportunity to compete at the High School Sailing National Championships.
