RIP: Philip R. Collins, ’59

In your prayers, please remember the soul of Philip R. Collins, ’59. Lt. Col. Collins passed away January 30, 2019.

Collins, Philip R.

Lt. Col. (Ret) Philip Collins, 78, of Tampa, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at his home.

Born in Rochester, New York on November 30, 1940, he was the son of the late Matthew Collins and the late Dorothy Vogler Collins.

Philip was educated at St. John the Evangelist School (Rochester), McQuaid Jesuit High School (Rochester) and John Carroll University (Cleveland Heights, Ohio), graduating in 1963. He entered the US Army after graduation and served our country for 22 years in Korea, Germany, Vietnam, and several stations in the US. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in July 1985 while stationed at Ford Hood, Texas.

Phil remained in Killeen, Texas for 12 years after his Army retirement but then chose to move to Tampa, Florida, in 1997. He remained there until his death in January 2019. He is survived by one brother, Thomas G. Collins (Karen) of Charlotte, North Carolina, one nephew, Michael Collins, and two nieces, Michelle Fry and Liane Christmas.

Phil liked to attend to his garden and acted as the unofficial historian for our entire family. He was a loyal member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church and contributed to the establishment of the new church built there in 2015.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the Mercy of God, rest in peace.
