Eighteen McQuaid students qualified for the NYS championship tournament held at Hofstra University April 6-7. Of the 14 who attended, a record nine students broke to elimination rounds. Three of the students who advanced – sophomores Zach Briggs and Connor Carrigan, and junior Gagan Timsina – are in their first year on the team. Junior Payton Petkus advanced to the semi-finals in both Dramatic Interpretation and Program Oral Interpretation.
Despite stiff competition from the downstate schools, four McQuaid students made it all the way to finals: junior Aiden Aguirre placed 5th in the state in Original Oratory; junior Jake Longuil and senior Mike Pavone placed 4th in Oral Interpretation and Dramatic Interpretation, respectively; and junior Logan Xavier Brown placed 3rd in the state in Program Oral Interpretation.
