Yesterday, in connection to Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Black History Month, McQuaid welcomed Sr. Barbara Lum, SSJ. Sr. Barbara worked in Selma, AL, at the Sister’s of St. Joseph’s Good Samaritan Hospital during the height of the Civil Rights Movement. She talked with students about her first-hand account of witnessing discrimination against black Americans and even how she helped treat marchers who were beaten during Blood Sunday. Sr. Barbara spoke with 8th, 9th, and 12th graders along with the Mosaic Club. She encouraged students to continue to work for change and justice in their communities.
