Wednesday Sports Notes

BASKETBALL

Congratulations to the varsity basketball team, who played well in a 83-52 victory over East on Tuesday night…their 6th win in a row!  The victory improved McQuaid’s record to 10-7.  Kobe Long had 27 points, including seven 3-pointers in the first half.  Anthony Iglesia put up 13 points and 6 assists, while Jermaine Taggart scored 12 points.  The team travels to Franklin on Friday for a 6pm game.  Keep up the good work, gentlemen!

HOCKEY

The hockey team traveled to Lakeshore Ice Arena on Tuesday to beat Irondequoit by a score of 5-1.  Three of their five goals were scored in the third period, as the Knights proved to be too much for the other team to take.  Dave Battisti had 19 saves in goal.  Scoring was as follows: James Merkley – 1 goal, 2 assists; Cooper Petrone – 1 goal (first HS goal);  Robert White – 1 goal (first HS goal); Jeevan Deol – 1 goal; Charlie Merkley – 1 goal, 1 assist.  McQuaid Jesuit plays at RIT this Friday, in a Pittsford-Mendon hosted matchup.

SKIING

From Coach Axtell: “The McQuaid Alpine Ski team swept the Wayne-Finger Lakes League this season, with 4 Slalom and 3 Giant Slalom victories.  The talent on the McQuaid ski team has been very deep this year. Most races were swept with the McQuaid team taking 2nd through 6th place, with most of the JV team also placing with times in the top ten.  This would not have been possible without the hard work the athletes put in the early season and their teamwork on the course.”   Good luck to the team at Sectionals on Feburary 13!

BOWLING

The bowling team beat UPrep 4-2 on Tuesday afternoon.  Nice job, and good luck at playoffs today at Terrace Lanes!
