Friday, April 26 – Merkley Delivers For McQuaid(article from Pickin’ Splinters)

Charlie Merkley cracked a 1-1 pitch into center field to plate Tyler Griggs and Drew Bailey, capping off McQuaid’s four-run bottom of the seventh and giving the Knights the walk-off win. The game had been a back-and-forth affair, with the sixth inning being the only inning of the game in which either team did not score. The contest featured seven lead changes and a combined 25 hits. Merkley finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Griggs went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBI. Noah Campanelli had four hits, three runs scored and an RBI in four at bats, and Zach Lee added a 3-for-3 evening with one RBI and a run scored. Bailey collected a pair of RBI and Patrick Xander drove in a run and scored twice for the Knights. Adam Williamson drove in a Rome-high three RBI, followed by both Riley Brawdy and Ryan Marrello with two apiece. Ethan Brown went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and Preston Mecca had two hits and three runs scored in three runs scored in three at bats. Aaron Simons closed the night 2-for-3 with a run scored and one RBI. Justin Swavely also drove in a run for Rome.
