Weekend Sports Wrap-Up


The wrestling team competed in the Avoca Round Robin Tournament and had 2 wrestlers win their weight classes.  Brandon Perrone was the tournament champion at 138, and James Schnell was the tournament champion at 285.  Other placings included Patrick McCray 5th at 99, Chris Mraz 6th at 106, Sean Oberlies 5th at 113, Seamus Costello 5th at 132, Ian Richards 5th at 152, and Roy Follman 3rd at 152.  The team has one more home meet on Tuesday against East Rochester, then competes at the Section V Championships this Saturday at Gates Chili High School.  Good luck on the rest of the season!


The basketball team is on a 2-game win streak after a victory on Saturday against Leadership, 88-74.  Jermaine Taggart had a great game with 30 points and 11 rebounds!  Other stats included: Anthony Iglesia 12 points, 11 assists; Kobe Long 18 points, 6 rebounds; and Connor Zamaria 14 points ,11 rebounds.  Great job Knights!

This week is a big one for basketball; there is a game tonight (Monday) against Fairport, followed by Wednesday at Edison, and then wrapping the week on Friday night at home against Bishop Kearney.  Good luck to the team!


The hockey team traveled to Massena to play back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday.  Friday’s matchup against Massena ended in a 2-1 win for the Knights.  Alex Spoto tied the game at 1-1 with an unassisted shorthanded goal in the 2nd to start the rally.  Then, with both teams skating 4-on-4, James Merkley finished things off by knocking in the game-winner at 5:14 into the third period, off an assist from Zach Lee. On Saturday, McQuaid was again victorious with a 3-2 win over Canton.  Charlie Merkley, Alex Spoto and Jeevan Deol scored unanswered goals in the third period to erase a 2-0 Canton lead.

The varsity squad’s next game will be this Friday at the Rochester Ice Center, against St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute.  The puck drops at 5:15pm.
