2019-20 Parents’ Association Newsletters

Parents’ Association Monthly Newsletter
Vol. IV; Issue X
May 2020

During these anomalous times and as we approach the final weeks of the academic calendar, may we continue to be supportive of one another. On behalf of the Parents’ Association we urge you to stay vigilant and follow the recommended guidelines regarding COVID-19. Although we do not yet know when it will be safe to celebrate them as they deserve, congratulations are in order to the graduates in the Class of 2020 and to their parents/guardians. Stay safe everyone and have a healthy summer. Hope we are able to be together once again in September!

NEWS:

McQuaid COVID-19/novel coronavirus Response
For the safety of everyone, due to the spread of the COVID-19/novel coronavirus, all Parents’ Association events and Mothers for Others volunteer activities have been cancelled until further notice. McQuaid will continue to post regular updates on our COVID-19 webpage and will share more details and developments directly by email as necessary. Click here for the McQuaid COVID-19 webpage.

McQuaid Information Technology (IT) Department
As our students continue their classes online, the IT department is readily available to answer any support calls over email and by phone. Please contact the help desk at help@mcquaid.org or by phone at 585.256.6161. Please call the help desk rather than an individual member of the IT team, as they can best assist you through the help desk. Thank you.

McQuaid Office of Mission and Ministry
The Office of Mission and Ministry at McQuaid is an available resource to help our community through the COVID-19 pandemic. New material and updates are posted regularly to the website to connect our community. We may be away from school physically, but our mission and ministry office is still here for you. Click here for their webpage.

Administrative Appreciation
Typically each spring we recognize and honor all of the administrative staff at McQuaid by celebrating National Administrative Professionals’ Day. Despite the change in circumstances, let us remember all that they do for our school community, even now — remotely and online. We are thankful for them all!

Nurses Day
In celebration of National Nurses Day, we recognize the important role our school nurses, Pat McDonnell, RN and Christine Jones, RN, perform in serving our students and community. We appreciate all they do to help maintain the safety and health of our students. To them and to all of the healthcare professionals within our McQuaid family, we are grateful for all that you do. Not only in times like this, but always — you give of yourselves for the care of others. Thank you and stay safe!

Class of 2020 – Senior Decisions
Although May 1st is typically the deadline for college decisions, some institutions have extended this deadline to accommodate seniors during this unprecedented time. So please continue to keep the Class of 2020 in your thoughts as they navigate through the uncertainty and make decisions regarding what comes next for them following their graduation from McQuaid.

For seniors who have finalized their post-graduation plans, you can check out the “mcquaidseniors2020” account on Instagram. It features their decisions, with photos and added fun.

Each year the McQuaid Counseling Department also celebrates the post high school decisions of our seniors. This milestone is too big to let the school closure ruin plans to honor the hard work of the Class of 2020. Parents/Guardians of 2020 Seniors, please encourage your sons to submit a photo or video in celebration of their future. The Counseling Department requests a photo of your senior wearing or holding a sign with their college name/trade/employer/military branch on it or a short (5-10 second) video announcing their plans for next year. The photos and videos will be compiled and developed into a senior class montage to roll out later in May. Submissions must be made no later than May 8th. For more details please refer your senior to the Schoology communication they received on this topic.

8th Grade Promotion
Congratulations to the Class of 2024 as they transition from Middle School to High School. May these young men continue to develop their minds and share their talents throughout their high school years.

Teacher and Staff Appreciation
Each year the Parents’ Association hosts a luncheon to honor the teachers and staff of McQuaid Jesuit. Unfortunately due to current circumstances this event has been cancelled. Nevertheless, we are still fortunate to have a committed group of individuals who not only educate and guide our students, but also serve as daily role models. They have adapted to the online environment and we thank them for their dedication and support in continuing to provide our sons with a Jesuit education.

Thank You
A big thank you to everyone in the McQuaid community who attended and volunteered at our many events. The year may have been cut short, but your participation and support is what makes each event a success!   Special thanks to Elly Chiariello (P ‘19, ‘22), Laura Cullen (P ‘21), and Cathy Tan (P ’19, ‘21),  for leading our Parents’ Association and to the other PA Executive Committee members Maureen McRae (P ‘20), Joe Eduardo (P ‘21), Doug Jeff (P ‘24), and Nicole D’Anna (P ‘24).  Your hard work and commitment have been greatly appreciated.
