Future talks will be taking place twice per school year and we expect to recruit local and national caliber speakers to discuss topics relating to parenting our teenage sons. Ideas for future topics are always welcome.

THANK YOU:

From the Hospitality Committee
We are very grateful for the many families that contributed their extraordinary talents to make our hospitality committee events successful and memorable. We kicked off the year with the 9th grade commissioning, and throughout the year receptions were held following the various traditional events organized by McQuaid such as the Advent Liturgy, National Honor Society Induction, and the Junior Mass and Ring Ceremony to name a few. We also welcome prospective students and their families at the Open Houses in the fall and spring.

From the Education Committee
This year, the newly formed Education Committee (Chair, Cathy Buyer-Davis; Sponsor, Cathy Tan; Faculty Liaison, Adam Baber) started off the school year by publishing a “Survival Guide” which provided FAQs for all parents and guardians that are new to the McQuaid community. We also spoke at the new student orientations in August and organized the PA meeting topics. This year’s topics included an introduction to the Wegman Family STEM center and the new PA association book club (highlighting Fr. Greg Boyle’s Tattoos on the Heart). Other projects included collaborating with the Principal’s office to develop the Parent Speaker series, a semi-annual lecture focusing on topics relating to parenting our children. The highlight of the year was spearheading the PA’s only fundraiser, the annual Barnes and Noble Book Fair, which raised over $775. Overall, we had a great year filled with new educational contributions as well as successful fundraising. We thank the many volunteers who all made this happen!

From the Social Committee
The Social Committee would like to thank all of the volunteers who donated many items and lots of time helping make the Mother’s Tea, Mom Prom, and Teacher Appreciation Luncheon successful. Your donations of time, treasure and talent made all of our events truly memorable! Many thanks to the Chairs of these events: Mother’s Tea – Laura Cullen & Luisa Laniak; Mom Prom – Suzanne Laese & Michelle Young; Teacher Appreciation Luncheon – Mary Marrocco & Aleta Williamson.

From the Service Committee
Thank you to all of the women who make up “Mothers for Others!” You lovingly gave your time and energy to those most in need, and modeled for our sons that service starts at home. Our deepest gratitude goes out to the chairs of the Service Committee, Lisa Courtney-Holmes and Connie DiFelice, who worked tirelessly to organize the following events over the 2016-17 school year: a baby shower at Birthright; a clean-up day at the Oatka Cemetery to care for the graves of the indigent and forgotten; an art exchange between boys from McQuaid and Villa of Hope; regular Bridge Home meals; and many others.

We are sad that Lisa’s son Loch graduated this spring, which means she will now volunteer at her daughter Teegan’s school, instead of McQ. Lisa has given her all to Mothers for Others since its very inception, and we will greatly miss her positivity and productivity. Thank you, Lisa, for inspiring us all with your faith and vision!

Finally, McQuaid has selected to honor both Lisa and Connie as “Volunteers of the Year” at this fall’s alumni banquet. If you see either of them, please extend both thanks and congratulations!

From the Spiritual Committee
The Spiritual Committee enjoyed a great year with highlights including the Opening School Mass, the Father/Son Communion breakfast and the Mother/Son Lenten Breakfast. The Opening Mass brought our new McQ community together at the onset of the academic year to start the year welcoming families back and sparking our own Ignatian faith! Jack Armstrong, sports newscaster for the Toronto Raptors, gave a dynamic talk to the boys and their dad/male role models, while Lent was uplifted by a wonderful morning of moms/female role models and their boys attending a communion breakfast highlighted by Marlene Bessette.

From the Communications Committee
We appreciate all the volunteers who helped us with the Parent Ambassador Project both last fall and this spring by reaching out to welcome all of the families new to McQuaid this year. We’d also like to thank Sean Mullen for helping us keep the website up-to-date and Maureen McGinn for sending out our PA Newsletters on time even when we get them to her with little time to spare.

From the Executive Committee
Thank you to the Administration, Faculty and Staff for their commitment to the PA of McQuaid, without your support we could not have accomplished all that we did this year! Thank you to the entire McQuaid Communityfor participating in our events this year. Your presence made all of these events enjoyable for all! Finally, it is with much gratitude that we would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our PA committee chairs. Thanks for all that you did this year to make the McQuaid PA a vibrant and important extension of the McQuaid community.
