It is both our honor and our duty to pay tribute to McQuaid Jesuit alumni who have served in the armed forces. Whether currently serving, retired, or fallen, these extraordinary men and their families remain an important part of the McQuaid community.
On September 16, 2026, McQuaid Jesuit formally dedicated a permanent memorial on campus honoring the 10 alumni who lost their lives while serving on active duty. The dedication brought together members of the McQuaid community, Gold Star families, veterans, alumni, local dignitaries, and friends of the school to remember these brave Knights and the sacrifices they made in service to our country.
These young men once walked the halls of 1800 S. Clinton as sons, classmates, teammates, and friends. They answered the call to serve with courage, honor, and selflessness, and their lives and sacrifices will forever be part of the McQuaid Jesuit story.
In memory of our fallen Knights, Sentinels now stand guard on the McQuaid campus. Each Sentinel is designed in the shape of the Jerusalem Cross, symbolizing the call to spread faith to the four corners of the world. Located on the back loop of campus outside Keenan Hall, the memorial serves as a permanent place of reflection and remembrance.
The Sentinels also honor the legacy of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, reminding us of the Ignatian call to service, sacrifice, and spiritual depth. They stand not only as tributes to each fallen alumnus, but also as an enduring reminder to all who pass by to “Live the Fourth” by carrying the values of faith, courage, and brotherhood into our daily lives.
McQuaid Jesuit is deeply grateful to the members of our community whose generosity made this memorial possible. A special heartfelt thank you goes to the Class of 1967, whose vision and generous lead gift of $75,000 inspired this project. The Class of 1967 also established the Sons of Veterans Scholarship Fund, which will provide financial aid to qualifying young men in grades 6-12 whose parents are active-duty members of the armed forces or veterans.
While the memorial has now been dedicated, support for the project and the Sons of Veterans Scholarship Fund remains an opportunity to help ensure that the legacy of our fallen alumni continues for generations to come.
