McQuaid Alumnus and a Former Faculty Member Celebrate Ordination as Jesuit Priests

On June 20, 2020 the Society of Jesus celebrated the ordination of 15 new Jesuit Priests in the U.S., Canada, and Haiti. Among these 15 were Jason Downer, S.J., ’99 (left) and former faculty member, Kevin Hughes, S.J. (right)

After graduating from McQuaid in 1999, Jason continued his education at Canisius College in Buffalo, where he received his Bachelor’s in History and his Master’s in social philosophy. In addition to his degrees from Canisius, he continued his journey of higher education. Jason joined the Jesuits in 2010 and post-ordination, he will do a pastoral year in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia.

Kevin, who taught math and science at McQuaid Jesuit from 2014-2017. For high school, Kevin attended St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia and would later go on to receive his Bachelor’s in biology from La Salle University. By the end of his senior year at La Salle, he had been accepted to the novitiate. Kevin continued his higher education and post-ordination he will serve as parochial vicar at Our Lady of Hope Parish in Portland, Maine.
