In your prayers, please remember the soul of Walter M. Brady, father of current faculty member, Dan Brady.
Brady, Walter M.
On Aug 28, 2020 Walter Michael Brady, husband and father to 6 children passed away peacefully at the age of 85.
Our Father was born on Aug 1, 1935 in Brooklyn NY to Walter and Marie Brady. He accepted an athletic scholarship to St. John’s University, playing both baseball and basketball. He graduated in 1957. Prior to his graduation our Father made his self-described “best decision of my life”, when he married our mother, Dorothy Irwin, on Nov. 17th, 1956. Their married life began with Dad signing a professional contract with the Boston Red Sox. Upon the conclusion of his baseball career, he soon accepted a position with the New York Life Insurance Company, where he would spend the next 35 yrs of his working life, in various ascending roles. He was extremely proud of his company and the career he had and so too is his family.
Our father was passionate about his Catholic faith. He lived a life built in service to others and spreading the Good Word. Upon his retirement from NYL in 1998, Dad (with full support of Mom) made the decision to enter the Diaconate program. Dad served as Deacon in both the parishes of St. John/St. Mary in Chappaqua NY and St. Jude in Sarasota, Fl.
Our Dad was preceded in death by his sisters Pat and Eileen, and by his brother Gil. He is survived by our Mom, Dorothy, his sister Marie, and by us: Karen, Walter, Daniel, Matthew, Gilbert and Douglas. Our spouses, Jim, Colleen, Pam, Melissa, Katie and Jane have a very special place in our father’s heart. He was so proud of the choices we made in our life partners, knowing they would help raise an amazing family. We are the proud parents of 17 children and 1 grandchild.
Our entire family is so grateful for Dad’s generosity, love and belief that all things are truly possible through the Lord. He signed every card, letter, and note the same way: ” All my love….All my life”.
Dad, be at peace. Know these are not just words, but actions felt and remembered forever.
Due to the current COVID pandemic, private services will be held. A date to celebrate our father’s life will be held at a future time and will be communicated when appropriate. Our family thanks you for your prayers and looks forward to celebrating our father’s blessed life together soon.
In lieu of flowers our family asks that you consider making a donation in our fathers name, to either McQuaid Jesuit High School (www.mcquaid.org/giving) or Nativity Prep Academy 2755 55th Street San Diego, CA 92105
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the Mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen
