In a hard fought four set match, the varsity volleyball Knights defended their Challenge Cup Trophy in a 3-1 set victory over Fairport on Monday, March 15. After winning a dominant first set, the Knights faltered in set two to host Fairport, and lost 23-25. The third set was equally contested, and after multiple lead changes and amazing momentum runs, the Knights came away with a hard fought 27-25 set victory. The stage was set for a win or face a set five situation. Drawing on their family mindset and dedicating their focus and efforts to McQuaid Jesuit Volleyball deceased alumnus, Dane “Great Dane” Leclair ’15 who would have turned 24 years old that day, the Knights responded with phenomenal defensive play and dominant serving and hitting to retain the Challenge Cup Trophy and make claim to, once again, pick up where they left off after last year’s state championship and continue to be one of the top teams in the state. The Knights record stands at 2-0 with much more volleyball to play.
